Supporting Growth and Independence in Your Child
School-Age ABA Therapy Program
At Applied Behavioral Approaches, we recognize that children continue to develop important skills beyond early childhood. Our in-clinic program for school-age learners between the ages of 7-12, uses evidence-based behavior support to help children grow in social, academic, and daily living skills and thrive in school and community settings.
Why ABA Matters for School-Age Development
Research shows that while beginning applied behavior analysis (ABA) early — particularly in the preschool years — can support strong developmental gains, ABA and behavior support remain effective for school-age children as well. ABA has been shown to improve communication, executive functioning, problem solving, cognitive, and daily living skills across ages when individualized and delivered with appropriate intensity and goals.
Our Approach
Engaging, and Effective
Our School-Aged Learners program combines a variety of evidence-based ABA techniques, including:
Reinforcement
We use positive reinforcement to motivate and encourage desired behaviors. This might involve praise, small rewards, token economy, or access to preferred activities.
Self-Management Strategies
We teach learners to monitor, evaluate, and regulate their own behavior. This strengthens autonomy and supports long-term success in functional goals — from academic tasks and social interactions.
Video Modeling
This visual approach provides a clear, structured example of the expected behavior, making complex skills easier to understand and imitate by leveraging strengths in visual learning.
A Day in the Life of a School-Aged Learner
Our school-aged program integrates Montessori-inspired elements — such as learner choice, purposeful routines, and meaningful work periods — with applied behavior analysis to support independence and skill development across contexts. A typical day might include:
Morning Check-In & Routine Support
Learners begin with a structured morning check-in and a predictable routine that helps them orient to the day.
Hands-On Skill Building
Learners rotate through activities tailored to their goals — such as communication tasks, problem-solving projects, practical life and independent living exercises, and academic-related tasks.
Social/Peer Interactions
Opportunities to interact with peers in a structured and supportive setting, building social skills and friendships.
Breaks & Reflection
These are woven into the day to help learners reset, support self-regulation, and transition smoothly between work periods while practicing everyday routines.
Our Supportive Environment
We believe that children learn best when they feel safe, happy, and engaged. Our clinic provides a warm and nurturing environment specifically designed for children. Our experienced and compassionate therapists are dedicated to building strong relationships with each child, fostering a sense of trust and security.
Getting Started with the
School-Aged Learners Program
We understand that starting ABA therapy can feel overwhelming. Our streamlined intake process is designed to make the experience as smooth as possible for you and your child. Here's how it works:
STEP 1
Complete & Submit Application Form
Begin by completing our online application form. This provides us with essential information about your child and your family.
STEP 2
Meet with the BCBA
Once we receive your application, intake documents, and an authorization from your insurance company, we'll schedule a virtual parent interview with a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA). This allows us to gather detailed information about your child's needs and goals. Following the interview, we'll schedule an in-center meeting where the BCBA will conduct a comprehensive skills assessment with your child.
STEP 3
Individualized Plan Developed
Using the information gathered from the parent interview and skills assessment, our team will develop a personalized treatment plan tailored to your child's strengths and needs. This plan will be presented to your insurance company for approval.
STEP 4
Start Therapy
Once the plan is approved by your insurance company, your child can begin therapy sessions in our clinic. Sessions typically last from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., Monday through Thursday, and if needed 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Friday.
We're Here to Support You
We believe in a collaborative approach to therapy. Our team will work closely with you and your family throughout the entire process, providing ongoing support and guidance. We are committed to helping your child reach their full potential and achieve a happy and fulfilling life.
