Applied Behavioral Approaches
EarliPoint® Evaluation Pilot Program
Applied Behavioral Approaches is excited to be piloting the EarliPoint® Evaluation, an innovative, research-based assessment tool that helps clinicians gather objective data related to early social visual engagement — a key developmental domain associated with Autism Spectrum Disorder.
At Applied Behavioral Approaches, we work with licensed diagnostic clinicians who include the EarliPoint system as one part of a thorough evaluation. After your child completes the EarliPoint® assessment, we share the results with the clinician, who interprets them together with other assessment tools and clinical information to create a complete diagnostic report. This can typically be done within 30 days.
What Is EarliPoint®?
EarliPoint® is an FDA-cleared tool that helps doctors better understand how young children look at and respond to social situations. Instead of just observing a child or asking questions, EarliPoint® uses advanced eye-tracking technology while your child watches short, engaging videos. By seeing where and how long your child looks at key parts of these videos, clinicians get objective information about early social and communication development that can help support an autism evaluation.
Important Note:
EarliPoint® is not a standalone diagnostic instrument — results are interpreted by our licensed clinicians along with
- Clinical interview
- Developmental history
- Standardized behavioral observations and assessments
This blended approach gives you both objective data and clinical judgment to support a comprehensive evaluation.
Who is EarliPoint® for?
The EarliPoint® evaluation is authorized to be used with children between approximately 16 and 30 months of age, who are showing signs of developmental differences or who families or providers suspect may be at risk for autism. The evaluation is designed to help address the need for earlier diagnosis, as many children in the U.S. are not formally diagnosed until age 4 or older.
If your child is older than 30 months, visit our Evaluations page to find our network of provider partners who offer age-appropriate diagnostic assessments.
How EarliPoint® Works
- Your child watches age-appropriate video scenes on a comfortable, child-friendly device.
- A specialized camera quietly tracks where and how long your child looks at key elements in the videos.
- This data is analyzed using validated algorithms that generate a detailed report that is shared with a clinician.
The process is non-invasive, engaging for children, and takes only a short time to complete. See it for yourself here.
Is EarliPoint® Covered by Insurance?
Some insurance plans may cover parts of an autism evaluation that include tools like EarliPoint®, but coverage varies by plan and provider. In Georgia, EarliPoint® has been included in Medicaid’s medical coverage policy, which means eligible Medicaid members may be able to have the EarliPoint® evaluation reimbursed when it’s provided by a Medicaid-in-network clinician. For other private insurance, coverage isn’t automatic — many plans cover medically necessary autism assessments in general, but whether EarliPoint® specifically is reimbursable depends on your individual policy, whether the clinician is in-network, and any prior authorization requirements. It’s a good idea to check directly with your insurance company to understand your coverage and any out-of-pocket costs. Currently, our EarliPoint partners are not in-network with insurance.
